Visa Sponsorship Guidelines
A guide for hiring domestic workers legally in the UAE.
Sponsoring a domestic worker (maid, nanny, cook, driver, etc.) in the UAE requires adhering to guidelines issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Derby Visa Sponsorship Center ensures your application is processed legally, quickly, and cleanly.
1. Sponsor Eligibility Requirements
Before initiating a domestic worker visa application, sponsors must verify they meet these criteria:
- Minimum Salary: The sponsor must have a minimum monthly household salary (usually AED 25,000 or above, depending on the worker category and specific emirate rule).
- Accommodation Ejari: A valid Ejari tenancy contract showing a minimum of a 2-bedroom apartment (to ensure appropriate private space for the worker).
- Marital Status: Families and legally married couples are eligible to sponsor domestic workers. Single individuals must obtain special approvals.
2. Core Document Checklists
To submit your application online, please prepare digital copies of:
- Sponsor's Passport copy & valid UAE Visa/Emirates ID.
- Sponsor's Salary Certificate & Ejari (registered lease).
- Worker's Passport copy (must be valid for at least 6 months).
- Worker's previous visa cancellation paper or tourist visa copy.
- Domestic worker passport photos (white background).
3. Process Steps (End-to-End)
Derby Visa Sponsorship Center handles all five administrative phases:
- Entry Permit: Typing and issuing the worker's domestic employment entry visa.
- Medical Fitness: Coordinating blood tests and chest X-rays. (We provide free transport for this step).
- Emirates ID biometrics: Scheduling biometrics/fingerprinting at a Federal Authority for Identity & Citizenship (ICP) center.
- Health Insurance: Arranging the mandatory health insurance policy for the helper.
- Residency Stamping: Completing final stamping and passport delivery.
4. Wage Protection System (WPS) Rules
All domestic worker salaries must be transferred electronically through the WPS system. Handing cash or writing personal bank checks is non-compliant and can subject sponsors to fines. Derby Center assists you with setting up registration for WPS transfers.
